Right now we’re floating in Newtown Creek which is on the Isle of Wight. We arrived yesterday but the weather and the scenery were so lovely that we decided to extend for a second day. We got the dingy out today, mounted our 2.5 horsepower Yamaha outboard and toodled around the river. There are a couple of groups of grey seals that live in the river and we enjoyed watching them swimming about and lounging in the tidal mud.

I need to learn how to relax. It seems that I’m always looking for the next boat project. Two days ago, I recruited Roman to help with sewing up a seam in our mainsail where the stitching had chafed. Today, rather than taking a nap I was doing some cleaning. You’ll be happy to know that right now I’m lounging on the deck and enjoying an Abbot Ale – “For times to savor.” One thing that the Brits know how to do well is to produce really good beer.

The flowers here are lovely. From old homes covered in wisteria to random lilac bushes, there seem to be flowers everywhere. It is spring, so many different kinds of flowers are blooming. Of all, lilacs are my favorite. The area of North Carolina where we lived was too hot for them but we had several large bushes in Pennsylvania when I was young. They are all over the place here and I like to stop and enjoy their scent. I’ve resisted harvesting a couple of stems to bring back to the boat, but I cannot say that it has not crossed my mind.
