We just finished the one week handover cruse with David, Flight’s previous owner. We were so busy and covered so much information that I fell into bed exhausted every evening with my brain full of information about lines and fenders and maneuvering and rigging, plus all of the systems on the boat. This boat is unlike all the other charter boats we’ve sailed in the past because everything actually works!

We spent the week sailing in the Solent, which is the channel between the Isle of Wight and the southern coast of England. It has been a great training ground because we have learned about tides and currents. The tides in this area are considerable, often varying by two to three meters. The currents which ebb and flow during the tidal cycle can either slow the boat’s progress or speed you along your way.
A few days ago, there was a massive low pressure system to our west and we were out sailing in gusts of up to 33 knots. Needless to say, we reefed or reduced sail area in order to sail safely in the strong winds. It was challenging, fun, and a great learning experience.
We decided to spend a few days on the Lymington Town Quay to hang out and enjoy the town. Yesterday, we took a long walk along the Solent through a bird sanctuary. Today, we got gas for the dingy, picked up some provisions, and mended the mainsail which needed a few stitches where it rubs against the mast. Tomorrow, we are off to Newtown Creek.
